Paul Beebe
Paul
Beebe of South Windsor, Ct. has been painting since age 15. He
is a graduate of Southern Ct. State College with a degree in
Graphic Design. Paul found himself drawn to marine subjects
after his first visit to the island of Martha’s Vineyard 24
years ago. He became inspired by its rich maritime history and a
great supply of subject matter in which he could express
himself. He began to render the historic schooners, elegant
racing yachts and whaling ships that regularly cruised island
waters. His interest in naval history has also led him to paint
several ships of the U.S. Navy.
Starting with a preliminary value sketch, Paul develops his
paintings using multiple layers of color from a limited palette.
His finished Paintings are highly expressive works that feature
the luminous skies and muted colors that define his subject in
the early morning and late afternoon light.
Paul is a member of the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association as
well as the Hamden Arts League. He currently shows his work at
the Edgartown Scrimshaw Gallery and The Old Sculpin Gallery on
Martha’s Vineyard. In Connecticut, He exhibits paintings at The
Courtyard Gallery in Mystic, Ct. Paul has been featured in
Waterways, and A Gathering of Marine Masters at the Art of the
Sea Gallery in South Thomaston, Maine. He has won first place in
the Watercolor category for the last two years at the All Island
Art Show on Martha’s Vineyard. He has exhibited his work at the
29th and 30th Annual International Marine Art Exhibition at the
Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport. He will also exhibit
paintings at The Maritime Gallery at Mystic’s Maritime Masters
show this spring 2010.
